Hotels With a Story to Tell: Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary
Located high in the spiritual Neyphu valley in the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan is the country’s first inclusive wellbeing, high-end sanctuary.
But this is no ordinary ‘hotel’. Inspired by the Bhutanese concept of a Zatsang (family), the Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary is a true home away from home. It offers a spiritual and emotional journey that is more of a pilgrimage than a holiday.
Uniquely Bhutanese by design …
The hotel takes its design cues from traditional dzongs (fortresses) complete with three-foot-thick walls and a large courtyard with prayer wheels. Whether you prefer a Balcony Room or a Terrace Room, all have stunning views of the Neyphu Valley and the historic Eutok Samdrupcholing Goenpa. They are luxuriously comfortable with Bhutanese decoration and locally hand-made bathroom amenities. The absence of a TV means you can truly disconnect and unwind.
Body, mind & spirit …
As the Sanctuary is wellness-inclusive, all the classes in meditation and yoga, as well as a wide variety of wellness treatments, are free.
On arrival you’ll meet with one of the two in-house Bhutanese traditional medicine doctors who will design a bespoke, well-being programme for you, including dietary advice, therapies and traditional medicine using wild medicinal herbs.
The spa has various treatment beds, a heated indoor pool, two private hot-stone baths, saunas and steam-baths, and a gym with wooden equipment. Signature treatments include Kunye traditional massage and Numtsug, a hot oil compression.
In addition there’s an art room where you can express your creativity creating ceramics or painting – guided by the in-house teacher.
Locally-crafted cuisine …
This incredible property has all the comforts and luxury facilities that you may expect from a 5-star property, starting with a world-class dining experience in the farm-to-table restaurant with bar and outdoor terrace overlooking the scenic Neyphu valley. With an open kitchen design you can watch organic ingredients sourced from local farmers being transformed into delicious and nutritious dishes.
And as all food and beverages (except alcohol) are included in the room rate, you can really indulge!
Perfect location for exploration …
There is such an overwhelming sense of peace that it’s hard to believe that it’s only a twenty-minute drive from Paro airport. Day trips are available to Paro, Thimpu, Chele La, and the beautiful Tigers Nest Monastery. Or why not go out on foot for adventures in the Neyphu Valley accompanied by the Guest Experience team. Take a refreshing hike, have a picnic with a scenic view of the valley, visit the neighbouring student monks, or play some Bhutanese darts and practice archery.
